Be Careful What You Wish for
"Be Careful What You Wish For opens with Harry Clifton and his wife Emma rushing to learn the fate of their son Sebastian, who has been in a fatal car accident. But who died, Sebastian or his best friend? When Ross Buchanan is forced to resign as chairman of the Barrington Shipping Company, Emma Clifton wants to replace him. But Don Pedro Martinez intends to install his puppet, Alex Fisher, in order to destroy the Barrington family firm just as the company plans to build its new luxury liner. In London, Harry and Emma's daughter wins a scholarship to the Slade Academy of Art where she falls in love with Clive Bingham, who asks her to marry him. Both families are delighted until Jessica's future mother-in-law has a visit from a friend who drops her particular brand of poison into the wedding chalice. Then Cedric Hardcastle, a Yorkshireman who no one has come across before, takes his place on the board of Barringtons. This causes upheaval and will change the lives of every member of the Clifton and Barrington families. Hardcastle's first decision is who to support to become the chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Alex Fisher? And with that the story takes yet another twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Be Careful What You Wish For showcases the master storyteller's talent as never before--when the Clifton and Barrington families march forward into the sixties in this epic tale of love, revenge, ambition and betrayal"--

Get all the books in the series before you start reading. Excellent stories about a complicated English family. I finally am getting caught up and another one is due out this year. Emma, Harry and Giles. Now their children Jessica and Sebastian are main characters too. Such a great writer.

I usually cannot put a Jeffrey Archer novel down, but this one I did. I know it is not fair to review a book I didn't finish reading, but I literally lost interest in this story. The plot and character development seemed to drag terribly. Is Mr. Archer trying to stretch this series out too much?

I could wait to read this book and even though it was well written and lots of action I was disappointed. Having stated that I will continue reading the series.

I have enjoyed Archer's work in the past, but I am finding this series slow and more of a soap opera then I like. I think he has done this type of historical family fiction better in other novels.

As a reviewer it is my responsibility not to divulge any of the plots of books I review. This is kind of hard to do with Jeffrey Archer's novels, in particular, the books in the Clifton Chronicles.

"Be careful what you wish for" begins where "Best Kept Secret" ends, and is just as intriguing. The Cliftons and the Barringtons battle hard against their enemies and the book which details this battle is a gripping tale.

While telling this tale, Archer's characters, even in the midst of a deadly battle maintain their British poise and droll sense of humour and it is a treat to read.

At the end of the book, one is left pondering the question, "Is this the end or is this yet another cliffhanger?"

Yes I have been told this statement a few times.
Yes if you verbalize what you want or wish for it just might happen

Whatever. I say Jeffrey Archer is a Master Storyteller. Blood, murder, sudden death, bankers, sharebrokers politicians and scandal, not to mention South American scoundrels and the IRA.; all the usual suspects and a few more besides. A great deal of highly enjoyable froth and nonsense.Pot-boiler, so what? The next one, number 5 in the series about The Clifton/ Barringtons, is due out in 2015.
