The Shining Girls
THE GIRL WHO WOULDN'T DIE HUNTS THE KILLER WHO SHOULDN'T EXIST. The future is not as loud as war, but it is relentless. It has a terrible fury all its own." Harper Curtis is a killer who stepped out of the past. Kirby Mazrachi is the girl who was never meant to have a future. Kirby is the last shining girl, one of the bright young women, burning with potential, whose lives Harper is destined to snuff out after he stumbles on a House in Depression-era Chicago that opens on to other times. At the urging of the House, Harper inserts himself into the lives of the shining girls, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. He's the ultimate hunter, vanishing into another time after each murder, untraceable-until one of his victims survives. Determined to bring her would-be killer to justice, Kirby joins the Chicago Sun-Times to work with the ex-homicide reporter, Dan Velasquez, who covered her case. Soon Kirby finds herself closing in on the impossible truth . . . THE SHINING GIRLS is a masterful twist on the serial killer tale: a violent quantum leap featuring a memorable and appealing heroine in pursuit of a deadly criminal.

Very cool book, good read. Somewhat confusing, sad but also gripping with characters that get under your skin. The last 20 or 30 pages u're rooting hard, cinematic in scope, like you can see the movie playing out on the screen. Definitely worth checking out.

This was one of my favorite books of 2013. I got it for Christmas and couldn't put it down!

Creepy and graphic, but hard to put down. For fans of horror, suspense and historical fiction with an edge.

the whole time travel thing is so fascinating, I would love to time travel! it would be awesome!! this book was a fun read, I liked it a lot. the Time Traveler's Wife was better, though.

Strange but good. The only parts of the book that I found sluggish were the chapters where the author tried to sum-up everything about a character in a few paragraphs, right before they were murdered. If she wanted to explain something in detail, how about a little history on the house. I never understood the house. I expected more in the end but I don't always get what I want.

Fun read. The writing is a little choppy and it was hard to get into it, but once I was about 1/4 of the way through, I started to really enjoy it. Interesting twist on time travel theme. I was not real keen on the ending and thought that it would have been better if the character who is featured at the end had a little bigger role. I had a hard time recalling all the info about him by the time the book ended.

Great start but did get confusing with the time jumping, plus I am not a huge gore fan.

I was so turned off by the anger and violence that I couldn't hang in there to see if the author was able to keep a plot going, let alone develop one with real characters. There is a big difference between a book's character having anger/violence issues and the whole book being written in this attitude.

Creepy and excellent. Harper is the scariest antagonist you'll meet!
