What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
Gilbert lives in Endora, a place where nothing happens. Aside from a secret affair with a housewife, Gilbert spends his days stocking shelves at a grocery store, caring for his mentally handicapped brother, and holding together a large family headed by Mama, a former beauty queen whose weight tops 500 pounds. But just when Gilbert thinks nothing will ever change, a pretty stranger arrives on the scene, capturing Gilbert's heart and inspiring him to make a break.

Gilbert Grape is a classic. Leonardo Decaprio's performance as the mentally handicapped brother is superb!! Johnny Depp comes to us in a totally different character. This is the story of a family facing hardships both internal and external. Gilbert is the oldest brother, trying desperately to hold the family together. The catalyst for change is when the Streamliner caravan comes to town stranding a young woman and her grandmother. Change is inevitable. Well worth the watch!!

Unconventional, sensitive 1993 film showing how a morbidly obese, small-town widow and her 4 teenage-or-young-adult offspring cope with life's mutability. One of her kids, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is mentally challenged. Numerous fine performances, not least of which DiCaprio's and Johnny Depp's as his older brother; both ooze talent and charisma.
