I think Woody Allen is getting cynical in his old age. All of these people are damaged, flawed human beings. People who are damaged and self destructive because they've had a hard life is one thing, people who deliberately and knowingly hurt other people is another. There isn't even one person in this story that you would want to know. The only thing good about this story is in the first few seconds there is a very beautiful shot of an airplane. That's all. After that, you'd be better served watching a re-run of NCIS.

4 stars for the acting, Cate Blanchett is awesome, but so is everyone else, in this depressing sad story. I loved all the characters, even her sister's unlikeable unattractive kids. I don't usually like Woody Allen movies but this one was very good. the characters were so real and believable, I hated Chili and his friends and you could feel all of their desperation.

I found this movie terribly depressing. Spoiler alert: Almost every character is utterly self-serving. Jasmine ignores her husband's illegal activity in order to maintain her wealthy lifestyle. When she loses her socialite status, she latches on to a diplomat who owns a large waterfront property and promises to take her to Vienna. She despises everyone who is beneath her. Her diplomat, in turn, merely wants her because she will serve as the token political wife
who looks grand in her designer clothes. Jasmine is assaulted by her dentist employer who forces himself on her. Jasmine's husband has numerous affairs and maintains illegal business exploits to his profit. Jasmine's sister is dating a crass man who embarrasses her in a public scene. She also has an affair with a married man who is apparently a sex-addict. There is no resolution for the good. The movie ends in despair. Is this the world Woody Allen lives in or is he trying to be as dramatic as possible? Despite the strong cast, I would have preferred not to have spent two hours with these people.

A 21st century classic. Ms Blanchett's oscar was well deserved.

I've always admired Cate Blanchett, and she gave this character every ounce of herself. I didn't necessarily care for the movie, however, nor am I a big fan of Woody Allen's films.

I can’t believe Cate won an Oscar for this movie. Yeah, sure she is good but when isn’t she? She has done way better movies than this one that could have earned her an Oscar. But with Sandra Bullock up for an Oscar, I guess that tells you what kind of year it is. This movie after 30 minutes is very boring and goes absolutely nowhere, lots of mindless dribble. There is nothing we haven’t seen before. The fact that Andrew Dice Clay is in this movie tells you the quality of it. Don’t bother.
