This movie was boring and depressing. I'm not sure what all the hype was about.

Very engrossing movie in spite of having no sympathy for any of the characters. Another of Woody Allen's best.

Yes it was similar to a streetcar called desire but there is an ongoing reality that many women are dependent on men (not only for affection but also to stay afloat economically) and terrified of aging (thus losing their assets). Personally I found this movie funny - even as someone who understands mental illness and the pain it brings. In the main character's case her "mental illness" was more anxiety than anything else. As someone with a beer budget and champagne tastes (and I love Draegers) I could relate to the snobbism and the apparent glamour of money. There was a lesson here throughout the film on honesty and what can happen when you lean too heavily on lies. I was impressed overall.

Absolutely loved this film ! I could not relate to Cate Blanchette's character due to her priviledge and snobbery, but I know what it is like to lose absolutely everything on earth and perhaps behaving in ways that people would consider 'abnormal'. A++++++

A story about a woman, her crook of a husband and her sweet sister. Cate Blanchett is brilliant as a self involved wreck of a woman and Alex Baldwin plays a sleezy business man as no one else can. Watching their lives circle the drain is like watching a train wreck. You don't like it but can't look away.

I got caught up in the Oscar hype and waited for my turn to come around so that I could borrow the DVD. I thought the movie was overrated and actually not good in so many ways.

boring, rich people just got to love them, not!

I wanted to like this movie...I really did. To be fair, the acting was excellent. However, the script was awful. I expect a film to "speak to me" by the time the credits roll, and this film left me with absolutely nothing, either positive or negative. It was simply a confusing blah!

Cate Blanchett won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her incredible performance as Jasmine, sometimes a fancy upper class wealthy woman and at other times a near manic and alcoholic mess. Alec Baldwin plays a scheming, scamming, philandering slime ball. Some critics suggest that Woody Allen got his ideas from A Streetcar Named Desire while others think he is trying to portray Mia Farrow when their relationship was breaking up. This film portrays a whole group of people messed up by others or themselves and not all of them will live happily ever after.

Great acting, particularly from Cate Blanchett, is one of the good points in this film by Woody Allen. However, some of the characters are just not likeable but the story is built around them. That is one major negative. Overall, it is enjoyable to watch.
