I wanted to like this movie...I really did. To be fair, the acting was excellent. However, the script was awful. I expect a film to "speak to me" by the time the credits roll, and this film left me with absolutely nothing, either positive or negative. It was simply a confusing blah!

Cate Blanchett won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for her incredible performance as Jasmine, sometimes a fancy upper class wealthy woman and at other times a near manic and alcoholic mess. Alec Baldwin plays a scheming, scamming, philandering slime ball. Some critics suggest that Woody Allen got his ideas from A Streetcar Named Desire while others think he is trying to portray Mia Farrow when their relationship was breaking up. This film portrays a whole group of people messed up by others or themselves and not all of them will live happily ever after.

Great acting, particularly from Cate Blanchett, is one of the good points in this film by Woody Allen. However, some of the characters are just not likeable but the story is built around them. That is one major negative. Overall, it is enjoyable to watch.

Strange movie. Not for me. I mean the characters were well portrayed, to the point I disliked the main character thus didn't enjoy the movie.

Blue Jasmine is a downer. The story is about the relationship between two sisters. Jasmine (Blanchett's character) has lost everything when her Bernie Madoff type scheming husband gets put away. She is forced to move in with her grocery-story cashier sister, Ginger. Jasmine comes with her critical pistol drawn. She is entitled and horrified she will have to live in the small San Francisco apartment of her sister who picks "one loser after another." The plot has some pricky points and you are guided through a juicy and complicated chain of events as you learn just how screwed up and selfish Jasmine can be. Very very good.

I liked the Sally Hawkins character best; she seemed most real and human to me. Self-absorbed and neurotic is a good description of the Cate Blanchett character. I had no empathy for her at all, especially after I saw how she treated her sister when she came to visit in New York. I did feel sorry for the son; he had two rather rotten parents. I'm not recommending this film to anyone. I don't usually like Woody Allen films but a friend told me this one was different. Maybe it was different, but I still didn't like it.

Excellent acting but, although I usually really enjoy Woody Allen, I didn't like the story and REALLY didn't like how it ended!
