I have to agree. THIS MOVIE INSULTED THE BOOK! Why did Valentine look like-I don't even know. Clary wasn't ANYTHING like the book. They left out parts. They added in unnecessary crap. Jace was a terrible actor. And don't even get me started on Magnus. I hated it.

I liked the visual effects of this movie but was very disappointed by the casting. Jace was the only one who looked right while Alec and Isabel were too short and Clary was too pretty. Don't get me wrong, the next two girls I'm talking about are pretty, but I feel that Clary was supposed to look like a cross between Hayley Williams of Paramore and Merida from Brave simply because they actually have bright red hair and have more cutesy yet plain facial features. Don't even get me started on Magnus and Valentine. SO WRONG.
Skip the movie, read the books.

This movie does not compliment the book. The movie has different order of events and is missing crucial details. Also the ending occurred in a completely different area with a different ending altogether. I will say if you didn't read the book the movie is fine but if you read the book the movie is messed up.

To say the truth book jace is better than movie jace wwaayy better

Disappointing adaptation of the series of novels, and plays as a cheaper alternative to the Twilight saga.

it was good, but I didn't like that it deleted the vampire motorcycle scene and Jace isn't that amusing in the movie. I like book Jace better to tell the truth. Also, Simon wasn't a vampire till City Of Ashes!

Surprisingly engaging. I watched everything including the deleted scenes and now I want to read the books too.

Well, there were things I liked about this movie, and things I didn't. I find it hard to watch two fight scenes at the same time, so it just gets all jumbled up and I can't follow. I really liked the artsy things, the runes and the "institute." The rooftop garden was a bit hokey. I liked the staircase there though. I was entertained, but at times it just felt a little cheesy. I'll read the book before I decide to get into this series any further. I think I liked the set, better than the story!

I've enjoyed reading the series and was looking forward to watching the movie. However, beforehand I discovered that the majority of its reviews were scathingly negative. But I thought it was pretty good. On the positive side the casting is strong. I thought the actors who portray Jace, Clary and Simon were absolutely perfect. The director captures the essence of the book. On the negative side, more money ought to have been poured into this project. It comes off as having a made-for-TV feel and the background music is noticeably poor, thereby pulling one's imagination back to the reality. A score with emotion inspiring themes and played subtlely for the most part is more effective. A number of scenes are odd - Clary runs into a Exorcist like child demon in the street who is then kicked to almost death by Luke -? and I doubt that Clary would draw a rune for cleaning up and repairing her apartment. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is a fantastic actor and portrays a very compelling villain; but, he is not the Valentine from the book. I'm curious to see the storyline of the next movie because a number of key plot elements have been left out or changed in this one. Looking forward to the next one, nonetheless. Hope it gets made!

Boy did I want to dislike this supernatural teen action/drama. I didn't. Sadly, The effects were cool and the action was good enough to overshadow the teen angsty melodramatic love story. Story is kind of dopey, but it is superior viewing to the Twilight saga if forced to watch this kind of flick.
