When James Asher and his wife Lydias baby daughter Miranda is kidnapped by the Master Vampire of London, the stakes are high, blindly follow the Master Vampires instructions, keep out of the way of the human networks that serves the vampires, destroy the interloper who seeks to seize control of the London Nest, and find the key to the Nests tortuous inner workings: The Book of the Kindred of Darkness. Even with the vampire Don Simon Ysidro on their side, there is no guarantee that anything , or anyone, is who or what they appear to be. This could be every bit as good as the first in her series. Maybe it's just that an author can't hope to sustain the novelty that a reader experiences when encountering a new world. But it does feel to me that if you've read the first one, you've read them all. This one is *ok*.

I have to admit - Lydia bores me. In spite of her interesting traits, she is a creature of her time and it's exactly not an era that was women-friendly.
But I have a soft spot for Barbara Hambly and always look for a heroine to match her Starhawk.
Not great but not bad.
