This could be every bit as good as the first in her series. Maybe it's just that an author can't hope to sustain the novelty that a reader experiences when encountering a new world. But it does feel to me that if you've read the first one, you've read them all. This one is *ok*.

I have to admit - Lydia bores me. In spite of her interesting traits, she is a creature of her time and it's exactly not an era that was women-friendly.
But I have a soft spot for Barbara Hambly and always look for a heroine to match her Starhawk.
Not great but not bad.
