Missing You
"From #1 New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben, a heart-pounding thriller about the ties we have to our past...and the lies that bind us together. It's a profile, like all the others on the online dating site. But as NYPD Detective Kat Donovan focuses on the accompanying picture, she feels her whole world explode, as emotions she's ignored for decades come crashing down on her. Staring back at her is her ex-fiance; Jeff, the man who shattered her heart-and who she hasn't seen in 18 years. Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her. But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light, in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable. As the body count mounts and Kat's hope for a second chance with Jeff grows more and more elusive, she is consumed by an investigation that challenges her feelings about everyone she ever loved-her former fiance;, her mother, and even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained. With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before, and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there"--

An excellent read. Fast pace, good characterization, interesting and believable plot.

Cannot return until March 15. Close friend passed and I won't be back in town until then.

I really like Harlen Coben and the Kat Donovan character, but this book was really weak. Forced myself to finish the whole thing because I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. The narrater on the CD is good, though.

I have read half of Harlan Cobens books. I've loved all of them. I read this one in a week I liked it didn't love it. I liked that it was a female lead character since usually it s not. Spoiler alert: However I was kind of disappointed with the ending. The book would have been perfect if they hadn't ended with the last punch.

It's still readable but the old Harlan Coben isn't in this book... I certainly wasn't racing through the book because I couldn't put it down... Coben seems to be dwelling much more in the darkness now and while I still read him, I'm less and less interested and I certainly don't recommend him to friends anymore - just too much darkness without any of the redemptive qualities in his earlier stuff...

Agreed with fleaflicka and pitkerra. Not his best. I haven't read many of his Kat Donavan novels, but I found her character to be poorly developed. She's a 40+ year old police officer. Her behaviour re: her ex and her father are more appropriate for someone in her 20's. Spoiler: The most interesting thing about the story is that, in the end, she wasn't even the hero. The reader is supposed to feel good about her emotional discoveries. Poor attempt at romance mystery writing
