Cross My Heart
"James Patterson raises the stakes to their highest level, ever-when Alex Cross becomes the obsession of a genius of menace set on proving that he is the greatest mind in the history of crime. Detective Alex Cross is a family man at heart--nothing matters more to him than his children, his grandmother, and his wife Bree. His love of his family is his anchor, and gives him the strength to confront evil in his work. One man knows this deeply, and uses Alex's strength as a weapon against him in the most unsettling and unexpected novel of James Patterson's career. When the ones Cross loves are in danger, he will do anything to protect them. If he does anything to protect them, they will die. I have to agree with those who are disappointed in this sad excuse of a novel.

Patterson thinks that it is perfectly OK to recycle plot twists from previous novels. And of late all he can come up with are threats to his main characters' families. This novel has no life, no cleverness, no ending. Others have mentioned the transparent plot development. I have to agree. A sad end to a once-promising series.

Seems to me that Patterson is just churning out novel after novel with no regard for quality or creativity. When he works with certain co-authors, I fully believe that their contributions are what I enjoy. Since he wrote this alone, I get the feeling that he is in serious writer's block.

And I notice that the press reviews were both raves. Not sure they were reading the same book I just read. Or I had no access to their cache of drugs.

The cliffhanger ending is the final straw. I won't be reading the finale when it is released.

I wish Robert Parker hadn't died...

I normally don't review books unless they are good. This is an exception because it's so gut renchingly awfull.

There are endless sequences of "woe is me" monologue, interrupted by unbelievable "action". The mystery is so transparently obvious that even the dimmest reader will anticipate what's going to happen. Well I have to amend the last statement. I was surprised that there was no ending. It was continued to a "next book" which apparently wasn't forth coming.

Another endearing feature was the intermittent sanctimonious religious commentary, that manages to be offensive to both believers and skeptics.

If the author was trying for worst novel ever, he is certainly in the top 10. I think some of the "reviews" must have been written by his mom.

Very disappointed in the way the book ended (or didn't). The story line was dragged out with to much filler. Could have been shorten then had a good ending.

lots of twists and turns with a major cliff hanger at the end. Looking forward to the next book!

Very disappointed... again. The next James Patterson book I read will have to be receiving rave reviews before I'll pick it up!

Just finished the Kindle version of this book. I thought that my download was corrupted until I read these comments. Checking here & his website indicates that he doesn't even have the ending book written. Not a good way to handle the situation!!

Very disappointed that the end book is not even available & doesn't show up on the list of books to be published in 2014!!

After feeling utterly disappointed when reading the 1st few pages, I read reviews to see if there would be a worthwhile ending to the book and I found that not only does the book end with a major cliffhanger, so you need to buy/read 2 books to get the story, the other frustration is that James Patterson does not even have the next volume in the series listed in the group of books he's releasing in 2014. I've been an avid James Patterson fan, but this on top of the last 2 installments of the Alex Cross series, which were a major disappointment, is making me wonder if Patterson is now simply churning out books for an easy paycheck, rather than using his skill to continue to write at the level his readers expect.
