As comments below state, nothing close to the original, but holds up on its own. Not really sure why it had to be a re-make, though. Just make some new films, Hollywood!

If you are looking for the same movie as the original, this is not it. The first one was far more tongue in cheek. I applaud this one for taking it slightly more serious whilst not so serious it's intellectually insulting. It's fun and at times scary and yes it is gory. But if you are a diehard horror fan i think you will really enjoy it. (I was against it until i found out Bruce Campbell was involved in it, he would never let the remake be crap)

Thanks to everyone for saving me some time. I'll giver this one a pass.

Yikes. Every time I see a film this bad, I always wonder how many people the budget of this movie could have fed.

A group of three women and two men meet in a cabin in the woods to conduct an intervention for a group member who is a drug addict. One of the men finds a Book of the Dead and he unknowingly summons evil spirits. All hell breaks loose after that as evil spirits possess and kill the group members. The movie has some scary moments but eventually the blood and guts becomes ridiculous.

I've never seen Sam Raimi's '81 original, and my library doesn't have it unfortunately. This is really a gore-fest; so much so that it became ineffectually mind-numbing after multiple mega-doses. And eventually comical and no longer scary. :)

Warning! - Evil Dead is not for the squeamish (like me)._____ But, if you're an enthusiastic fan of really/truly hardcore horror & gore - And, if lots & lots of splattering blood, and severed limbs, and burning flesh, and abominations from hell is what gets you all wet & wild & wanting more & more, then, yes, this Evil Dead reboot will most certainly satisfy you to its very last drop._____ Without wasting any time at all with the usual fluff & stuff, Evil Dead dove right in and delivered a real monster-of-a-wallop with its relentless depiction of gut-churning, scream-at-the-top-of your-lungs horror._____ Yes. This film's terror-ifically graphic visual effects literally stunned me silly. _____ I think that this slightly above-average remake was something of a triumph in its re-telling of horror-run-amok in terms of keeping in pace with today's standards of in-your-face, down-your throat, and up-your-ass terror._____ *Trivia Note* - There are 5 principal characters in the story. Their names are David, Eric, Mia, Olivia, and Natalie. If you take the initial of each of these names, in the order that I've listed them, they spell out the word (Are you ready for this?) "DEMON". (Wow! Now, ain't that something!?)

aside from the original this one has more gore. more interaction withthe charecters.. as well as the storyline. all in all both movies are great. a must watch

LOL. Should have been filed under "Comedy". Absolutely silly. Unless blood and chopped up limbs qualifies as scary
