I greatly enjoyed this fast paced rush to win book. I thought the author did a great job of incorporating the importance of a library in children's lives with the fun & excitement that can be felt there through the reading of books. I highly recommend this book and could see a movie being made. I was not able to solve the puzzle at the end either but plan to read the book again.

Almost immediately I felt like this book was a combination of Jumanji and Charlie and the CHocolate factory (which you can see particularly well in the title character). I did, however, enjoy the book and trying to figure out the puzzles. What I wasn't expecting (and I'll admit I didn't find) was the puzzle at the end. Did you find it?

This was a fun book to read. It has similar elements of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

This book is a rip off of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The author tries to be funny and channel Willy Wonka, instead he comes across as annoying. The quest in the library is boring and easily resolved, the characters are conventional, and I never felt vested in either. I would not recommend this book.

A Facebook status I posted soon after starting this: "How I knew the book was fiction: The first sentence of chapter 2 included the phrase, "world-famous librarian.""

Chris Grabenstein's website proudly proclaims at the top of the page that he writes "fast-paced fun reads for young(er) readers." That label definitely fits this book, a clever ode to games, books, puzzles, libraries, and mysteries. There are many small ways readers might find thrilling connections to this story, whether it's trying to decipher the many puzzles before the characters do, getting caught up in the excitement of winning the games and solving the mystery, feeling proud of their library knowledge and wonder about the amazing library Mr. Lemoncello creates, or confirming their love for any of the multitude of books referenced throughout the story. The plot clearly owes something to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory along with countless other favorite titles, but the characters, engaging storytelling, and fun are all Grabenstein.
