Spring Breakers
Four frustrated college girlfriends plot to fund their best spring break ever by burglarizing a fast-food shack. But that's only the beginning: during a night of partying, the girls get arrested. Love it hate it or both. I still can't decide. I love that it was so completely out of the box and upturned all expectations of what this film would be. Hate it because it was an artistic experiment by the film maker and he frequently lost sight of the whole. This will only fully appeal to a specific few who love art films - but also don't mind copious drugs, violence and tits. There "seems" to be much said with this film but not anything concrete - like, isn't hedonism stupid - because it ultimately isn't about anything. The film-maker said he tried to make the film like a piece of music - and I think in that he succeeded. Recommend only for film nerds but seeing some of his previous work might help.

Candy-colored candy flowing across the ‘screen’ (delete the structure). Mostly pre and post. Preparation on set and put it together in edit. --- Kind of what I’d do. This guy is at his highest and most confident visioning this play of sensibility. ---– Transmutes human errors with utmost amusement. ---- As to the drama element there are some flaws here and there that could have been eliminated w/either a few quick reshoots or in editing. Once in a while Franco slips out of trance because of ad libs. The gun sucking sequence was too glib I thought, however fun it was. I would’ve liked it more subtle, in league with the subtle strains of the sequences. In a seemingly outrageous flow subtlety was ever-present. --– The indulgence in indulgence could have been helped with an even shorter film (1:33) but it does do the Warhol thing. I thought the relative unattractiveness of the girls helped this effect (even though it most probably wasn’t on purpose?). ---– A most amazing talent doing great things w/video. A man after my own heart; very much what I’d do, have done with audio. ----- I’d like to see Korine go even further away from plot since he doesn’t seem to need it. The styles had flaws since he was see-sawing between guerilla filming and aesthetic editing. He needs to see this and work at focusing. ---- And not get so giddy (or high?) with all the stunned people around to lose this focus. If he relaxed a little more the vision would be more in ‘harmony’ with the process of getting there. --– A true ‘wild man’. ----- Steve Jobs would love the candy colors so delicious!

It takes real creativity to use tits, booze, drugs, and violence and still make it into a movie this boring !!
I kept fast-forwarding cause I thought it would just have to get better,...NOT !

( Kev's PICkS : For total contrast in a 'college kids' kind of a film, check out the extra-dry wit of "Damsels In Distress" .)

It was everything I expected, and everything that I think the Bling Ring wanted to be.

This was one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. It could have been indie, if the acting was better. The visual of James Franco with cornrows and a grill was initially funny and all of his "y'all-in". But the female cast was unseasoned. Some scenes appeared to be improvised . . . like when James talks about the tanning lotion and tanning up. The scene where he sucks the handgun was kind of freaky. Overall, just plain stupid.

a very harsh movie to watch.

An exhilarating fever dream of gorgeous photography and frantic music and editing mixed in with lots 'o shots of tits and ass. What can be bad about that? But, is this the metaphor: Young kids, taking a break from dull lives at home or tough grinds at school, cut loose and have "girls gone wild" sex in Florida? This could be made at Mardi Gras in New Orleans or Carnival in Rio. And is that a scathing analysis of how girls become lunatic, machine-gun-wielding-drug-gang-murderers? Me no quite buy it, although the Taliban probably would agree, since thats why they keep the girls locked up. And I never bought the angle that these girls could be seduced this easily into anything but getting laid, but without that gangsta and his shit, all youve really got is just another beach-blanket-bingo flick. Of course, I watched the "making of" extras, and the director did not want to be specific about what they were getting at because it was more like a provocative hallucination, and some will be provoked. Our culture may be twisted, but it aint because girls are getting laid.
