Great acting all around but especially by Mirren. Being the backstory of the making of Psycho, the film was interesting. And the period look was pretty good. Solid entertainment.

Fascinating story about the character of Hitchcock himself, and about marriage in general. Well-done and beautifully made. Enjoy.

Entertaining fictional portrayal of the making of "Psycho." I wish the DVD had some extras like an interview with the director and cast, which would have added more insight to the production.

this movie humorously tells a backstory of the filming of "Psycho". One of the great lines from film history ... studio executive says "thank God we have Cinderfella for the holidays!" The story of the movie is told against the backdrop of Hitch's relationship with his wife and collaborator, Alma. Their part of the story is cleverly told using some of Hitchcock's film techniques. It is difficult to play such an iconic figure as Alfred Hitchcock without drawing criticisms.

This film starts semi entertainingly but evolves into a cliche ridden romantic comedy. The cast is great and the story is interesting but the script and the direction are sub par. Surely Hitchcock's life was darker than this?

A bit slow, but interesting. A nice little, subtle intrigue in the last 15 seconds of the movie.

Just saw this disappointing movie...the screenplay drags and jumps around from making the movie to their personal lives but there is no meat to the stories...usually Helen Mirren projects are very good...this one is a stinker and Anthony Hopkin's acting can be compared to a stand up comedian impersonation of Hitchcock, reminded me of Krusty the Clown from The Simpsons...Give the movie 2 out of 5 for the cars from the 50s.

I couldn't get through this movie. Had to turn if off after 25 minutes. It was rather boring. I think you have to be a real Hitchcock fan to enjoy this movie.

Almost perfectly cast. I was surprised at how good Johannsen and Biel were. I felt like I was watching Leigh and Miles. Same with D'Arcy as Perkins. The only problem was Hopkins fake chin prosthetic. He did NOT look like Hitchcock and he overacted, including his inane mouth movements. The movie would have worked much better if the director, art director and cinematographer had mimcked Hitchcock's artifice in movies, like 'North by Northwest; and such. Or....do this movie in black and white. It is otherwise a pretty boring movie about the best director who ever lived.

An imagining of how Psycho got made. This is not a documentary. It was like a love letter to a horror movie and about the couple who fought each other and the studio to get a fresh idea to the masses.

(At the Motion Picture Production Code censors' meeting) Geoffrey Shurlock: "The Code will absolutely *not* permit you, to show a knife... penetrating a woman's flesh!" Alfred Hitchcock: "I assure you, Geoffrey -- my murders are always models of taste, and discretion." Geoffrey Shurlock: "Is there any improper suggestion of nudity in this, uh, murder scene in the shower?" Alfred Hitchcock: "She won't be nude. She'll be wearing a shower cap."
