I used to love zipping through these J.P Beaumont novels, but this drifted off into slow-poke territory. Maybe because I've gravitated toward Daniel Silva, Alex Berenson, Robert Crais, and Micheal Connelly lately, Jance's pacing and characters seem pokey in comparison. It was disappointing because I've enjoyed her books so much in the past.

J.P. Beaumont is getting to be a pain. The premiss is far fetched.......opening a cold case because of a narcotic induced dream? ...Really? Up and dressed and chasing bad guys so soon after a double knee replacement........please. A policewoman killed because of your obsession and "my bad" is about the most you feel? In addition....are there ANY high ranking police officers who aren't corrupt in the extreme? (kind of a recurring theme in her books lately) Then there is the contrived "we owe so much to our fallen comrades" sub plot. Yes, yes, I read her explanation at the end. It was very interesting but just added a layer to this story that didn't click. Lucky for J.P. that money is no object....it makes life SO much easier.

can you get the audio book?
