Item Details

"The bloodthirsty Jit is dead, and against all odds Richard and Kahlan have survived. But a new menace has attacked them in the Dark Lands. Infected with the essence of death itself, robbed of his power as a war wizard, Richard must race against time to uncover and stop the infernal conspiracy assembling itself behind the wall far to the north. His friends and allies are already captives of this fell combination, and Kahlan, also touched by death's power, will die completely if Richard fails. Bereft of magic, Richard has only his sword, his wits, his capacity for insight -- and an extraordinary companion, the young Samantha, a healer just coming into her powers. Compelling, fast-moving, and intense, The Third Kingdom is a powerful tale that welcomes new readers to Terry Goodkind's world, while opening up new vistas of worldbuilding for longtime readers of the adventures of Richard Rahl and Kahlan Amnell"--

A majority of this book was back-story. It like reading a story of a person reading a story. With that being said, this book was a lot better than the previous book. The characters aren't falling into every single trap and are able to solve problems with whit, skill, and knowledge rather Deus ex Machina - though in classic Goodkind, it still saves the day. All-in-all, not a bad book, but could do with a bit of work with the exposition of the story to make it a bit more exciting than making me feel "book-cepted".

We will just have to agree to disagree. I liked this book. It's not the "sword of truth" but it is something. I hope he is working on a marathon and not a sprint. There were books in the "SOT" that I did not like but kept with it.

I love that Richard is being forced to learn new things and and overcome. If he was super war wizard it would take the journey out of it. He would just have need and stop time plug up hole in the kingdom, kill this guy and back to peace in the midlands.

I think the general dying (is a total give my life for the better of my wife and king, was a great death. Complete sacrifice. That is the kind of husband and general you want on your side.) will make the Cara character come back as a complete sociopath again. More mord-smith less squirrel feeder.

And lastly, I love the fact that the main adversary (the resurrected guy) actually has respect for Richard for once. I think this will make the future battles much better and so much harder to win. So hopefully they head back to the wizards keep and we learn more back ground on the wizards of old, and hopefully they learn some new kick *** magic.

I agree with senji1101. 50 pages of translating the language on a wall, and it seemed like 20 pages of debating each move to make. I almost did not finish the book, but I hung in there & the rest of the book was just OK. BUT, I felt no emotion when a major character (in the series but not in this book) was killed & I usually do feel something. The ending seemed rushed & convenient. I also am not sure if I will continue the series.

First, I must say that I loved the first 11 books of The Sword of Truth. That said...

This book, it seems to me to be missing a lot of things I loved about the first 11 books. It drags on at times for 50 to 100 pages before it gets semi interesting again. The problem is that it doesnt stay interesting for very long.

I dont know what Goodkind is doing, but whatever it is, it needs a LOT of work. Im on the fence of weather or not to even bother with the next book when it comes out. The good thing there is it will be at least a year before I really have to make that choice. As it stands, Im not curious enough to want to bother with another if its like this.
