I made many of the recipes and thought that they were delicious. I didn't find any of the ingredients expensive or hard to find. Some things I skipped or substituted. But overall, I loved the simplicity and new ideas for healthful meals for my family. We loved the black bean and guacamole tacos, cauliflower and chickpeas with parsley and mustard, fish tacos, rice bowl sundaes, pickled jalapenos and ginger/lemon tea + the entire salad section and salad dressings are terrific--the Green Goddess was especially terrific (i used greek yogurt rather than goat or sheep yogurt or veganaise). I could have made any one of these recipes without the cookbook, but the combinations, spices, and ideas were terrific. I cannot afford a personal chef--it's nice to learn from someone who has the resources and shares.

Beautiful book, easy to make, simple recipes that don't require a lot of specialty ingredients, which was a surprise to me.
Well photographed and although somewhat pompously narrated by Ms. Paltrow, I will be using some of the recipes and techniques she advises.

Just finished copying some of the recipes in this book to use later as loan period is so short. Ingredient list is never long and method is simple. On reading some of the recipes I ask myself, "You need a recipe for that?" like Chicken Fajitas, fried/boiled eggs. While she does use products not in my pantry, there are other recipes where special ingredients are not needed. Her recipes are influenced with Asian and Mexican flavors so expect to see miso, soy, peppers, fish sauce, ginger, and hoisin sauce in the recipes plus no dairy but almond or rice milk. She often uses maple syrup or honey instead of sugar for sweetners. I had to laugh at her "Shephard's Pie" made with black beans and no lamb or hamburger in sight. I tried her Japanese chicken meatballs with ginger, soy, maple syrup mixed with ground chicken and then fried and served with hoisin sauce. Quite a cocktail meatball. Good hot or cold. I hope the other recipes I wrote out are equally as good. Might make the banana and date muffins next. Her weekly food schedules at the back of the book might help with meal planning.

Gwyneth Paltrow should stick to acting. . . .no, wait! Maybe cooking is her only real talent after all?

It is a good guide to start changing out your pantry, but many of the items are expensive. Not realistic for people on a limited budget.

I am a big fan of both of Ms Paltrow's cookbooks. While I liked the first better, I do really like this one. It has great ideas and encourages readers to take a leap of faith & venture into finding their own spin on the recipes. It shouldn't be a standout, but these days, so many books (in general) are produced on the cheap, this one is definitely well thought out, well written and has high quality in the printing & photos. It would definitely hold up, in a variety of ways, in anyone's personal cookbook library. I do take a bit of an issue with the frequent use of spelt, which is NOT gluten free. However, unlike many, the authors of this book make a point of mentioning the facts & offer up alternatives. This is definitely a book for both those new to cooking gluten free & dairy free, as well as those of us with yrs of experience.

Love this book. Full of healthy recipes, exactly what I was looking for. I am buying one copy for myself.
