Not for the faint of heart. Lots of crazy violence that's so over-the-top that (for me and the friend who watched this with me anyway) it goes beyond horrifying and instead makes you scream with shocked laughter. It's the kind of movie that leaves you speechless at the end. I'd recommend it for anybody over 18 who needs a jolt.
I stopped watching this after a short while because it was not in the least bit interesting.
the way this was described "a twisted redneck trailer park thriller" was perfect! Matthew was his best in this as the southern gentleman with a twisted side to him. I really liked the whole story and it was brutal at times, but it went with the territory.
Excellent!
A tightly scripted, swift paced, and well acted black 'humor' gem. Worth seeing,.. especially for those who are comfortable with graphic violence.
( 21 copies? must be popular ) You either love this film, like Ramage by the same director, or hit eject 15 minutes into it. The comments by the library audience apparently agree. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 77% rating and the film got 3 of 5 stars from Roger Ebert! The story was over the top, peppered with scenes of extreme violence and disturbing images. It probably got those great reviews based on the reputation of William Friedkin who directed · The French Connection (1971) · The Exorcist (1973) To Live and Die in L.A. (1985) · Rampage (1988) etc. See wikipedia for entire list.
what a choad giving spoilers directly below! this was a FANTASTIC movie. if you liked American Psycho or Killer Inside Me, you'll LOVE this movie.
SURPRISED TO SEE MCCONAUGHEY TAKE ON THIS KIND OF ROLE. TOO MANY BRUTAL SCENES. VERY DISFUNCTIONAL FAMILY. MATT PLAYED HIS ROLE WELL, VERY CALM AT TIMES,AND VERY VIOLENT WHEN HE IS DOUBLE CROSSED. ENDING LEFT DOUBTS AS TO WHO ALL DIED. I CANNOT RECOMMEND TO FAMILY OR FRIENDS. TOO BLOODY. PLEASE NOTE ROGER EBERTS (CRITIC)COMMENTS ON FRONT OF DVD CASE.
I had never heard of this film. I fast-forwarded thru many violent scenes. There sure was a lot of nudity too. I like Matthew Maconaghey the best. He was super scary... menacing...
