"Jackie Cogan is an enforcer for the New England mob. When a high-stakes card game is heisted by unknown hoodlums, Cogan is called in to 'handle' the problem. Moving expertly and ruthlessly among a variety of criminal hacks, hangers-on, and bigger-time crooks--a classic cast of misfits animated by Higgins's hilarious, cracklingly authentic dialogue--Cogan gets to the root of the problem and, with five consecutive shots from a Smith & Wesson thirty-eight Police Special, restores order to his corner of the Boston underworld."--P. The basis for the film "Killing Them Softly."

Summary

Add a Summary

When a Boston mob-protected poker game gets hijacked and robbed by two masked hoodlums, trust-worthy enforcer Jackie Cogan is hired to investigate, and find those responsible. Under the eye of a mysterious driver, Cogan uses his connections to narrow down suspects. One of them includes Mark "Markie" Trattman, a wise guy who once robbed his own poker game.
Meanwhile, Frankie and Russell, the two guys who robbed the poker game, are trying to keep a low profile when they realize the possibility of being hunted down. However, their boss, Johnny "Squirrel" Amato, who planned the robbery, seems to be over-confident enough about the situation.
