… More »During the years he spends in a neural health facility, Pat Peoples formulates a theory about silver linings: he believes his life is a movie produced by God, his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki; his old friends are saddled with families; the Philadelphia Eagles keep losing, making his father moody; and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy.

Add a CommentQuirky and touching, with extremely likeable characters. The narrator writes as if he is simple minded, which put me off at first, but I promise you, if you hang in there, the story will draw you in after a few pages. Highly recommended.
This was a satisfying read. It started off slowly for me but once I got 60 pages in, I read the rest of the book in one go. The writing kind of bothered me at times. I then read that Quick's published YA novels in the past which may explain the writing style.
A light, fun read if not a totally accurate portrayal of mental illness. Maybe it's accurate if you're in a rich family, are surrounded by friends and are being perused by a beautiful woman. No real idea what Pat's actual illness is. I liked the message though. Even if the mental illness stuff was kind of a mystery. But life isn't really like this. Which, I suppose explains the success of the story.
Charming novel about recovery. Very optimistic too. A bit different from the movie so if you have only seen the movie, give the novel a shot too.
Prefer the movie to the book..
I chose to read the book after watching the movie, and can honestly say the film is only inspired by the book and not a true adaptation.
This book was great, fun & quirky! Really enjoyed reading about Pat Peoples and what he's going through.
This was a fun, light read. Not terribly believable, but lots of fun moments. I think, from the looks of the trailer, I'll enjoy the movie better....
I'm really excited for the movie
I wanted to read this book because i heard about it's movie release for 2013 and thought I would give it a tryy. I absolutely loved it! Couldn't put it down from the moment I started! Even though there's alot of football talk and random parts you won't understand till the end, it was great!
