Add a CommentFifty shades of… deception! I had no idea the pieces were not original, but versions of the original music. Villa-Lobos, Fauré, Chopin, Bach and Pachelbel probably rolled in their graves as I tried to listen to this CD, poor souls. I cringed when I heard Barbara Hendricks' horrendous rendition of one of my favorite composers, Villa-Lobos: she assassinated his gorgeous “Bachiana Brasileira” # 5, the “Cantilena”! My ears were pierced by the singer’s horrible voice. No one compares to the angelic voice of the gorgeous Bidu Sayão, sorry!
Ad agencies & film directors have already discovered these popular classics.
Sorry, I have not read this book. I found this cd because Richard Castle's new book FROZEN HEAT mentions Faure and I went looking for that composer - however, the song from Frozen Heat is not the Faure selection on this cd. That said, this is an awesome collection of some of my favorite classical music in one place, there are only a few pieces that I wish would have been included.
