I enjoyed this novel very much. Great atmospheric and accurate descriptions. Unlike another reviewer I had no problem with the angst-filled detective or his personal baggage. However, if I lived on Lewis I'd stay away from bad luck Fin: many tragic things seem to happen to those close to him. I felt that huge back story not only furthered the mystery but will be needed for the rest of the trilogy May has written. NYPL, where is the second book ,The Lewis Man?

This novel is outstanding. Top-notch mystery, intriguing setting and fascinating back story. Good writing too. A+A+A+

I only read 1/3 of this book. I am really quite tired of detectives filled with angst and hauling personal baggage. Sure, it can be hard to go back home, but just solve the mystery.
