I could not put it down! Mesmerizing!
Absorbing and beautifully written novella. Mary's story, by Mr. Toibin, is deep and very moving. I was completely immersed in it and felt her pain as she described her son's crucifixion. This is a masterpiece.
Beautiful and sensitive story which portrays Mary as a complex woman, with worries about her son and his legacy. Don't know what believers will think of this...but I thought it was thought-provoking and moving. It's a small book (barely 100 pages) but Toibin (who is always an amazing writer) reels you in very quickly and firmly into the story.
I loved the first few pages of this novella and was really looking forward to the rest of the book but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me. It was interesting but lacked the spark I loved in the introduction. Still...a decent story as it takes so little time to read
