SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana's quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too--but on his own terms. Shocked yet thrilled by Grey's singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success--his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family--Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey's secrets and explores her own dark desires. This book is intended for mature audiences. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Honestly, I first thought it was a colossal mix-up followed by a collective hallucination: the author actually wrote an erotic parody of Twilight, it somehow got misunderstood for real fiction, the author said, OK, whatever, and... voila!
Well, as we know, it wasn't that simple.
What I like: The title and the cover page.

Terrible, terrible book. The prose is really horrendous. I have absolutely no idea how this got past an editor. Besides the obviously terrible and often painful writing, I found this book completely offensive. Not because of the BDSM, of which there was surprisingly little, but because this is a description of an abusive relationship. The main character is repeatedly manipulated and guilted by the main love interest. She has crippling self esteem issues which he appears to prey upon. She also appears to have some sort of body dysmorphia/ eating disorder. This would be bad enough on its own, but its written in first person, present tense. So we get a wonderful front row view of her enabling and self loathing mentality. The only way I could see this book having any value is if it were used in like a social work class as an exercise in identifying victims' verbal and behavioral cues. Other than that, "Oh jeez", it's trash.

Curious, I purchased this book only to be so appalled that I threw it into the recycling. Vulgar & without any redeemable value.

I am a fan! You will be a fan of this book! The author really knows how to introduce each character. The work is well put together!!

Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed this book. Saying that, this isn't the best piece of literature out there and I also agree that some sex scenes were unnecessary. Nonetheless, this novel is pretty intriguing.

THIS BOOK HELPED VERY MUCH IN MY INCREASE OF VOCABULARY WORDS. I CAN'T WAIT TO READ "FIFTY SHADES DARKER". BESIDES THE FACT THAT I HAD A CHANCE TO INCREASE IN VOCABULARY, THIS BOOK WAS REALLY INTERESTING, THAT I CAN'T WAIT TILL THE NEXT BOOK. (:

Anastasia and Christian engage in bondage exploration as they feel they fumble their way toward a real relationship.

TAKE THE SPECIFIC AGE FACTOR OUT AND IT COULD BE,FROM THE ROMANTIC ASPECT ALONE,EVERY WOMAN'S FANTASY GUY.
RICH, EXTREMELY HANDSOME,INTELLIGENT AND VERY ASTUTE IN HIS CAREER.
DANGEROUS ENOUGH TO BE EDGY BUT HAVING A SENSITIVE(ALBEIT HIDDEN)AND ROMANTIC SIDE.
I'D DATE HIM! LOL

“Sometimes I wonder if there's something wrong with me. Perhaps I've spent too long in the company of my literary romantic heroes, and consequently my ideals and expectations are far too high.”

“Why don't you like to be touched" Ana whispered, staring up into soft grey eyes.
"Because I'm fifty shades of f*****-up, Anastasia”
