Definitely my favourite Reacher book so far...'Hobie' is a brilliantly evil character

There was a few holes in the plot. Those aside, something sinister was cooking from page one but I never got much wiser until near the end. Good details on Vietnam soldiering and MIAs ... and for all his troubles, Reacher was rewarded with finding his lost love.

I didn't particularly like the subplot about finding the MIA Vietnamese veteran as it took too long to resolve with lots of trips to various military places in the US and Hawaii and even to Vietnam. Also, the romance between Jodie and Reacher seems a bit far fetched to me considering how unkempt Reacher must have looked. Thank goodness Child just briefly describes their romantic encounters!! The descriptions of the bathroom scenes, with the victims of the one-armed bad guy, are stomach turning. In this book Reacher does get hurt, however, unlike in the other stories. Probably a must read for Reacher fans as the story does contribute some background to the Reacher-Garber connection.

3rd in series. Very good characters. Can understand why this series has been successful.

Spotty. Many parts long-winded filler.

Is Reacher tough or not:

“A picture of you, my friend,” the doctor said. “That’s what. The damn bullet didn’t even make it into your chest. Your pectoral muscle is so thick and so dense it stopped it dead. Like a three-inch kevlar vest. It popped out the other side of the muscle wall and smashed a rib, but it went no farther.”

The bullet launched sideways under his raised left arm and hit the distant garage about the same time his right elbow hit the guy in the face. An elbow moving fast ahead of 250 pounds of diving body weight does a lot of damage. It glanced off the frame of the screen and caught the guy in the chin.
