This is truly an amazing story that has the capacity to change the way you think about WWII and the heroes who fought in it. This book has everything: action, despair, love, revenge, forgiveness, even shark attacks. It is a rare book that I can honestly say I recommend to anyone and everyone. Look for the movie to come out in 2014, directed by Angelina Jolie.

I absolutely LOVED this book! An amazing story that I could read over and over again:)

One of the best books I have ever read. Could not put it down! I have a new level of understanding and respect for the both the time period and the heroes of WWII.

Well written and beautifully researched, this book was a compelling look at the second World War and what it was like for too many soldiers. An excellent read, and not just for history buffs!

Thought-provoking book. A reminder of the horrible things people will do to one another after racist, militaristic brainwashing by the public schools. At the same time, the determination of an "unbroken" spirit is amazing and inspiring. The love of Louie's family transformed him in childhood and sustained him in his worst hours of torment at the hands of the Japanese.
