Miss Cassandra Clare doesn't fail to fill my days with good books. I was a little hesitant to read this sub-series of the Shadow World at first, because it's hard for me to connect with books based in the past and also, I mean, reading a book about Shadowhunters without Clary or Jace seemed in a way wrong. I got over this though, and in the very least was intrigued with Tessa and her situation. Being one of the only shape-changers, and having an unknown parentage got my attention right away and I got hooked in the story. Jessamine was an interesting character, having wants I never saw before in a Shadowhunter in the Mortal Instruments series, and Sophie's story made my heart swell with empathy. (Spoiler) I was so sad when I thought of how Thomas loved Sophie while she loved Jem. It was like an unfortunate love triangle (or would it be square?) that was cut short with Thomas' death. I love Charlotte and Henry- they are adorable characters. Then there was Jem and Will. Jem is so sweet and his addiction is so sad that I just can't help but love him, while Will is a lot like Jace (in more ways than both being Herondales). He can be kind or cruel to Tessa and has a twisted sense of humor that reminds me a lot of Jace, and yet with all of these up-and-down emotions, I can't help but feel like he will end up with Tessa (also, I'm pretty sure he was Brother Zachariah in City of Heavenly Fire).
Finally, I can't get enough of all the little hints Ms. Clare throws at us! Like Magnus and Camille appearing, Jem being a Carstairs and Will being a Herondale (with the family ring), Mortmin mentioning a warlock who created a ring that can transport people (the ring that Sebastian had) or doors that can bring you to the places you wanted to go (Portals). It's just so cool to see the little ways the stories connect. I'm excited for the next book
(PS I Hate Nathaniel! What is it with Cassandra Clare creating strong female characters with evil or deranged brothers?)

Set in the late 1800’s, Cassandra Clare’s Clockwork Angel features the life of Tessa Gray, a 16 year-old girl whom travels to London, England in search of her older brother. Upon arrival, she is captured and kidnapped by two older women, who go by the name of ‘The Dark Sisters’. Over the course of the next few weeks, these women torture Tessa, and force her to do things she didn’t know she could, such as shape shifting into another person and accessing their memories. Soon enough, a handsome stranger by the name of Will Herondale comes to her rescue, and takes her away from the Dark Sisters. All is not well though, as Tessa soon becomes involved in a world of magic and mystery, in which she must juggle two love interests, worry about her brothers whereabouts, and the uncertainty of what she really is, all the while being pursued by a powerful force, who will stop at nothing to acquire her abilities.

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare is hands-down brilliant. The detail in her writing is absolutely beautiful, especially since the setting is Victorian England. The characters are all very well-developed, from arrogant, poetic Will, to selfless, naïve Tessa. The dialogue between the characters was written with such style, it was humorous, witty, deep, and lovely. The plot of the story is what really had me hooked though, because I became desperately attached to this magical world that Cassandra Clare created, a world filled with shadowhunters, warlocks, demons, and all sorts of magical creatures. I also became attached to the heroine, because she had so many mysteries going on, which kept me on edge.

Overall, Clockwork Angel was beautifully written. It had mystery, adventure, and romance, as well as lots of twists to the story. Amazing!

The Infernal Devices series is an amazing prequel- I found it better than the Mortal Instruments series. Clockwork Angel is a gripping story that will have you loving all the characters..or..almost all of them. With the handsome, witty, and mysterious Will, and beautiful, considerate and sweet Jem. and not to mention our brave and selfless heroine Tessa, you will find yourself turning page after page until late into the night!
The Clockwork Angel is only the first out of three incredibly mysterious, romantic, and action packed novels that are must reads!
You will find yourself growing more and more attached to the characters as you read Clockwork Angel and continue the series- don't pass these amazing books up! I hope you love them as much as I did!

The only reason this book got half a star, was because of William Herondale. Otherwise, I wouldn't even recommend this book to my enemies to be quite honest.

"Blue does not go with everything," Will told her. "It does not go with red, for instance."
"I have a red and blue striped waistcoat," Henry interjected, reaching for the peas.
"And if that isn't proof that those two colors should never be seen together under Heaven, I don't know what is."
"Will," Charlotte said sharply. "Don't speak to Henry like that. Henry—"Henry raised his head.
"Yes?" Charlotte sighed.
"That's Jessamine's plate you're spooning peas onto, not yours. Do pay attention, darling."

"It's Will," she said. "He's being absolutely ridiculous in the dining room." Charlotte looked puzzled.
"How is this different from his being totally ridiculous in the library or the weapons room or any of the other places he's usually ridiculous?"
"Because," Jessamine said, as if this should be obvious, "we have to eat in the dining room."

Will pointed a finger accusingly in their direction. "You're ganging up on me. Is this how it's going to be from now on? I'll be odd man out? Dear God, I'll have to befriend Jessamine."
"Jessamine can't stand you," Jem pointed out.
"Henry, then."
"Henry will set you on fire."

Clockwork Angel, the prequel to the New York bestselling series The Mortal Instruments is set in gas lit streets of Victorian London. 16 year old Tessa Gray is lured by the Dark Sisters members of The Pandemonium Club a secret Downworld organization of vampires, warlocks and other demons. Tessa manages to escape with the help of Will, a magical being called a Shadowhunter, killing one of the sisters and a servant who is more robot than human. Will, along with his Shadowhunter friends belong to the London Institute are dedicated to ridding the world of demons. She is fascinated and torn between Will and his best friend James and is drawn deeper into the plot that threatens to destroy not only the Shadowhunters but the world as well. Magic is dangerous – but love is the most dangerous. Compulsive reading as Clare has the ability not only to tell a story but to create a very intriguing other world.

When sixteen year old Tessa Gray arrives by steamship in London to meet her brother, she is met instead by two creepy women from a dark, gloomy mansion. Only when they show her a letter handwritten by her brother does she agree to accompany them to their lair. Tessa becomes their prisoner. They teach her to use her unknown powers to shape shift. Unbeknowst to Tessa, she was born with powers to become anyone or anything. This quality, or gift, makes her highly valuable to the mysterious and terrible Magister. The Dark Sisters tell Tessa that they are to deliver her to this evil man, but Tessa is grabbed and spirited away by two young men who tell her they are Shadowhunters, trained warriors with special gifts who fight Downworlders like vampires and warlocks to save humans.

Tessa yearns to find her brother and fears for his life. The Shadowhunters agree to help her find him, if she will use her shapeshifting powers to help them infiltrate a vampire clan. Tessa finds herself torn--does she love the dark and brooding Shadowhunter who saved her from the Sisters? Or does she truly hate him?
