Add a Commenthgibbins-- if you think that many rotten things can't possibly happen to one person all at once, I'd say you've been too lucky in your life. I didn't change my name to LaustCawz for nothing.
I love this movie. An adult fantasy about a night in NYC. Wild and wacky, and fun and hilarious, but also strange and odd at times. Love that old TV remote that is shown in the beginning of the film. An old phone answering machine too. How quickly some things change!
When I saw this film back in the 80s the Peggy Lee song “Is that all there is?” was the perfect accompaniment in the film. Like in the song, the character goes from surviving one crisis to escalating crisis challenging ?Is that all there is? --- I didn’t demand that this film be real, I took it in the same vein as many of the films of the early 80s (Diva, Brazil, Liquid Sky): dreamlike weirdness.
After Hours is rather odd, but a fairly good movie. It lacks believability as there are too many off-beat things that happened to this one guy. It reminded me more of a something you'd see in slapstick or a similar genre as there was just too much to completely take in.
